1% OF COLLECTED TEXTILES FOR RECYCLING IN THE WORLD BECOMES NEW CLOTHING

29.07.2020 г.

That, according to experts’ opinion from Ellen MacArthur fund is pitifully little and worth some critics. Thus, brands’ programs on collecting of old clothes for recycling show their inefficiency.

Facts of shipment of the biggest part of collected raw materials to developing, mostly African countries are provided in the investigation. The other part of the secondary raw materials is recycled and used in technical isolation production, construction materials and fillers for matrasses.

Turns out, that all the calls for closed production cycle remain only the marketing strategy, and brands continue to follow linear structure of economics. Textile and apparel productions continue to cause more harm than benefits to ecology, producing new potential waste and delegating care of Earth to the poorest countries of the world. This bad practice causes consumption growth, even among those, who pursues a strategy of conscious consumption – they truly believe that brands produce their new collections from recycled textiles and think that they do help the nature, but this is not really the case.
